Dad, Cam, Smoky, Chirpy


In the kitchen around the big white dishwasher,and Cams bedroom.


It was dark outside when Smoky the cat came inside, carrying a cricket in her mouth. She dropped the cricket on the tiles in the kitchen. Usually when she dropped her crickets she'd caught they would jump up and down, but only on the spot. This one stayed still. Cam bent down and picked up the cricket, but it suddenly came to life, jumping out of Cams cupped hands. The cricket scrambled under the dishwasher. Smoky waited by the dishwasher, waiting for the cricket to come out. After a few minutes of waiting, Smoky lost interest as the cricket wouldn't come out.She wandered off into the lounge. Cam shone a torch under the dishwasher and the beam of the torch picked out a few peanuts, dust and cobwebs, but no sign of the cricket Cam called Chirpy. Suddenly Chirpy gave a soft feeble chirp, as though trying out his voice surprised to find himself alive. Then he chirped again and again, louder and louder until Cams dad heard the chirping and came into the kitchen. He swept under the dishwasher with a fly swat, but couldn't get chirpy out.'' Wheres that damn fly spray, '' muttered Cams dad, Cam quickly thought of a solution, '' we could pull the dishwasher out,'' suggested Cam hopefully, '' no'' said dad sharply. Cam opened his mouth to argue, '' no ''said dad wearily I'm to tired to argue.'' Cam went to bed but he couldn't sleep. He kept thinking about Chirpy. Cam waited until his dad had gone to bed and was asleep before he got out of bed and went downstairs to save Chirpy. He began to pull the dishwasher out. If all went successfully he'd be able to get the dishwasher out to save chirpy, as long as his dad didn't wake up. Unfortunately Cam didn't get that far. ''What the?'' Cam's dad came downstairs. He saw the dishwasher. '' I thought i told you not to.'' Cam saw that his dad was carrying the fly spray.'' I thought you wouldn't do that till the morning,''Cam said accusingly. His dad sighed. '' yeah, i did. His dad shrugged his shoulders '' okay, lets pull the dishwasher out. They pulled the dishwasher out and Cam bent down and cupped his hands gently around Chirpy. His dad opened the back door, and Cam wandered out into the night, to find a safe place to put Chirpy. Cam bent down and opened his cupped hands, and Chirpy jumped out into the night, out of sight.
